Vehicle Ceramic Coating (Ceramic Pro)
Purchasing a car is a big investment, so it’s natural that you would want to do what you can to protect it. Problems like dirt accumulation and everyday use can wear down your car’s condition in no time. The best solution for this is buying improvements and accessories that can give it some much needed protection as well as increase its durability.
If you’re looking for something that can do all of this and more, then you should invest in Ceramic Pro. This multi-layered, liquid nano-ceramic coating can effectively give your car’s surface a permanent, flexible glass shield that protects it from dirt, dust, and tar while giving it a superior shine.
Ceramic Coating Benefits
Ceramic Pro owes its reputation to the innovative nano technology, which allows nanoparticles to fill in even the smallest pores in between the vehicle’s paint. This gives it an extremely glossy finish while lowering surface tension to prevent foreign particles from adhering to it. It also has a self-cleaning effect that works in conjunction with water by encapsulating any dirt and easily rolling off the surface.
Aside from making your car look good, there are several other benefits that Ceramic Pro can give, including:
- Increase Your Car’s Market Value – The coating gives your vehicle round the clock protection, increasing its appeal to any potential buyer. After applying the coating, you’ll notice that it gives off a mirror finish shine that improves on your car’s color depth by a considerable degree.
- Reduced Maintenance – Because of the added protection that the coating delivers, every day dirt and dust will no longer be able to stick to your car’s surfaces. This makes it much easier to clean your car and you won’t have to do it as often either.
- Gives a Lifetime of Protection – Because of the specialized technology behind Ceramic Pro, it can effectively give this kind of protection throughout your car’s entire lifetime. With the proper maintenance of its finish, you can rest assured that it will reliably protect your investment for a very long time. The Ceramic Coating Technology
Ceramic coating was developed based on a ceramic molecular compound formula, also known as nanoceramics. Spawned by the need for an easy-to-apply, long lasting material that would protect automotive surfaces while preserving their shine, nanoceramics have finally stepped out of the shadows of laboratories and are now gaining popularity in the mass market.
While the term nanoceramics might sound high-tech, it really does date back to the ancient times. In the 9th century, Mesopotamian artisans created pottery that had a glittering effect by combining traditional ceramics with silver, copper and oxide particles. The method was refined over the centuries and reached the height of its popularity in the European Renaissance when craftsmen were able to achieve shimmer effects on their pottery.
With the aid of today’s chemical and surface engineering advancements, Ceramic Pro and other brands were able to develop products that achieved a similar effect that was meant to be used for automobile bodies. The end product is a fluid that bonds physically and chemically with the paint and clear coat of your car which adds another layer that provides multiple aesthetic and protective benefits.
Being based on ancient techniques doesn’t mean that there’s nothing advanced with ceramic coating, though. As a matter of fact, today’s nanoceamic technology lives up to its name as it works at the molecular level to do its magic.
Essentially, the molecules of ceramic coating agents increases the association of clear coat and paint molecules, packing them more tightly to achieve a glossier finish. This allows the vehicle’s overall body to resist scratches better and repel contaminants such as water, dust, soot, animal, droppings and more. At the molecular level, nanoceramics also prevents water from beading and sticking to your car’s surface. Instead, it rolls off and takes contaminants with it, giving your car its very own self-cleaning technology.
The Ceramic Coating Process
While applying ceramic coating to your car’s body and its other surfaces isn’t rocket science, it helps to know exactly what you’re doing. It takes the right materials, knowledge and experience to do a good job at coating your car, so make sure that you leave the work to the pros if you’re not sure exactly how to go about it.
What You’ll Need
At Superior Auto Styling, we depend on the following to get our ceramic coating job orders done:
- Ceramic Coating – Choose a high quality one from a trusted manufacturer.
- Ceramic Coating Application Kit – This is what you’ll be using to apply the coating to your vehicle’s surfaces. These should come with the coating that you purchased. Expect to find foam and micro-suede materials inside.
- Microfiber Towels – Get at least four high quality pieces. You’ll use two in applying Gyeon Prep and the other two will be for removing excess coating.
- Gyeon Prep – This is what you need to wipe your vehicle with in preparation for coating. It removes even the tiniest of impurities and debris, making sure that none of those are coated and over and stuck on your car afterwards.
How Ceramic Coating is Applied
Step 1: Prepare Your Car’s Surfaces
Wash your car thoroughly with a pH neutral soap to remove most dirt and impurities from the surfaces you want to coat. Surfaces may include the body, chrome parts, the wheels and even the windows. Note that not everyone wants their windows coated in order to preserve the best possible level of visibility. Use the Gyeon Prep and the microfiber towels to make sure that even the smallest contaminants are removed. When the car is clean and dry, you can move on to the next step.
Step 2: Apply the Coating
Open the coating’s container and watch for crystallized bits of coating near the top of the bottle. If there are none, you can proceed. If there are any, dispose of them as these can scratch your car’s original surface.
Wrap the foam applicator with the micro-suede cloth. Put a generous amount of coating on it and start applying it on to your car. With little to no pressure, apply the coating on the hood, roof and trunk in straight lines or circular motions. Make sure that you aren’t missing any spots and always keep in mind that pressure isn’t necessary. Keep doing this with the side panels of the vehicle, the wheels, and other surfaces that you want to coat.
Step 3: Remove Excess Coating
Watch for raised parts of the coated surfaces. These will be pretty easy to see as they’ll have rainbow effects on them when viewed from different angles. Use the microfiber towels to even them out with the rest of the surfaces. Seeing these doesn’t mean you did a bad job at coating. Even seasoned professionals can’t coat a vehicle perfectly every time on the first try.
After all obvious imperfections have been addressed, use your towels again to wipe the entire vehicle’s coated surfaces with little to no pressure. If any coating goes to surfaces that you didn’t want to coat, simply wipe them with the towels gently to remove it.
Step 4: Let the Coating Dry and Cure
After making sure that there aren’t any imperfections left on your newly-coated car, let it sit in an enclosed space for at least 24 hours to make sure the coating fully crystallizes and cures. Keep it away from wind, dust and especially water in the meantime. Some professional coating service providers have infrared lights that dramatically hasten the curing process, but there aren’t many of those and you wouldn’t want to bother with the extra charges unless you want your vehicle in and out of the garage fast.
Ceramic Coating FAQs
Will Ceramic Coating Keep my Car Shiny?
How Does it Self-Clean My Car?
Will It Prevent Scratches?
Ceramic coating has been proven to ward off many types of abrasions and impacts on your car’s body. Small pebbles, seeds or insects making contact with your car on the freeway shouldn’t cause major damage if you have ceramic coating applied.
However, there is still no good defense for strong impacts and acts of vandalism. Ceramic coating will not be enough to protect a car from a deep key stroke or piercing from pointed metals. Keep in mind that this type of coating is meant more for protection against the environment than bigger, more physically imposing objects making contact with force.
How Long Will It Last?
Ceramic Pro and other top shelf manufacturers can guarantee that the coating will last a lifetime. However, other ceramic and glass coating brands and service providers will recommend a touch-up within 2-5 years.
The lifespan of your ceramic or glass coating can be extended depending on the way you use your vehicle and where you drive it. Obviously, high heat and humidity can hasten its depletion while milder climates with relatively clean environments can help keep it in place and in good condition for more years than it’s supposed to.
Can It Be Used on Other Surfaces?
Ceramic or glass coating isn’t exclusive to your car’s body. It can also be used on the windshield, the wheels and even on chrome accents. As a matter of fact, ceramic coating has major applications in watercraft, aviation, household items and other industries.
Is Ceramic Coating Safe for People and Nature?
Ceramic coating is ton-toxic and safe for any environment. Once it solidifies and bonds with a surface, it stays on it for the long haul. Studies have repeatedly shown that even at temperatures of 450 degrees Celsius, ceramic coating does not break down and emit fumes that may be harmful to human beings and the environment.
The composition of ceramic coating was inspired by the ability of leaves and flowers to stay clean despite constant exposure to water and dust. This means that ceramic coating is gentle on nature and won’t do anything to contaminate waterways, the ground or the air.
Can I Apply It on My Own Car?
Ceramic and glass coating manufacturers designed their products to be as easy to apply as possible. However, that doesn’t mean that certain skills and equipment are unnecessary. Before applying Ceramic Pro or other similar products in the market, you need to make sure that your vehicle is as clean as can be, free from major blemishes. This can take several hours, a lot of effort and specialized tools as well as cleaning agents.
Drying can also be a waiting game. Ceramic coating can be dried perfectly and evenly under infrared light, but it can also be done in a regular room that’s not exposed to a lot of air, dust and direct sunlight. Simply put, you can do your vehicle’s ceramic coating yourself, but most people would rather leave it to the pros.
